Ford Australia Revives Mad Max Interceptor

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 21, 2011 – Ford Australia, in partnership with TopGear Australia magazine, has unveiled not one, but two spectacular new Mad Max Interceptors.

The 21st century concepts have been designed by Ford's (http://www.ford.com.au) designers for TopGear Magazine Australia to help celebrate the revival of the Mad Max action movie genre.

It is more than 30 years since Hollywood director, George Miller's original Mad Max movie - starring Mel Gibson and a jet black Ford XB coupe-based Interceptor - hit movie screens around the world.

Ford (http://www.ford.com.au) Australia's Melbourne-based Asia, Pacific and Australia Design Director, Chris Svensson, jumped at the chance to design a new Interceptor and has since thrown the full weight of Ford Australia's Research Centre behind the project, with stunning r 2011 Dodge Durango R / T esults.

"Our entire team was v goverment technology ery excited to be involved in this after-hours project and they approached it with a great deal of enthusiasm – even those that were too young to remember automobile news the first Mad Max movie," Svensson said. "We had a special screening of the original movie so they could understand it."

Led by chief designer passenger cars Asia, Pacific and Africa, Todd Willing, the team created several way-out concepts that pay homage to styling cues from the original XB Coupe Interceptor. < ni ssan GTR specification /p>

Out of the concepts two have been chosen by the magazine to feature in the April issue of TopGear Australia magazine, on sale now, because they take body design, power sources and weaponry to a futuristic level.

TopGear Australia magazine readers will be invited to vote on which design Ford (http://www.ford.com.au) should take to the next level.

The winning car will be turned into a clay model, and then a scale version, which is expected to be revealed later this year.

The two competing designs – by designers Nima Nourian and Simon Brook - are limitless in their imagination, technology and weaponry. Among the weaponry is an industrial-strength "taser" mounted to the bonnet to zap bad guys on bikes straight off the road.

Other futuristic movie features include a titanium-lined body shell to interrupt police scanners and wheels with extendable spikes to shred enemy vehicles.

Nourian said his design paid tribute to the 1970s Interceptor, but also drags the car into the future.

"There are some great scenes in the first movie with high-speed chases and clashes with the bad guys, and I thought I'd take that one step further," he said. "So instead of having weapons and machine guns, we've got an industrial strength taser that'll zap cars dead and out of the way.

Brook's car was equally threatening. "During high-speed pursuits, the wheels inner spokes on my design would pop out and start ripping up other cars," Brook said. "They'd do some serious damage to other people's vehicles."

Brook's design takes cues from the current FG Falcon but advances it further into Armageddon-land, while adding touches of the retro Interceptor as well. "I wanted to keep it clean and aerodynamic in its essence, but still brutal and tough."

Miller has begun filming for a new Mad Max instalment, tentatively called Mad Max 4: Fury Road.

Wimmer Survives “Big One” For Season-Best Finish

checkered attempts, and while some cars couldn't make it to the finish, Wimmer and his team continued to work on the car to ensure a successful day on one of the biggest tracks on the NASCAR circuit.

When the green flag dropped on Saturday afternoon Wimmer knew that he would have to be patient and wait for the right time to begin to make his push to the front. This strategy paid off because even though he went a lap down early in the race, constant adjustments, focus, and a well-placed cautions allowed Scott to get back on the lead lap. He was able to make his way through the field and avoid a wreck that took out half of the field with 28 laps left in the race. The goal was no longer to only survive the race, but it was now time to contend for a Top-10 finish. When the checkered flag finally dropped after two attempts at a green-white-checkered finish, Scott Wimmer and his team could enjoy a solid 12th place finish.

"Any restrictor plate race that we run is intense because we have to worry about bump drafting and "The Big One". With the new cars, we essentially have to learn how to bump draft all over again. This showed today with late wrecks that took out a lot of really good racecars. The new style of racing with the two car packs is something that we have never seen before h Infiniti m hybird ere or at Daytona. It's exciting for us and the fans. I love racing here, and I'm happy that we were able to adjust on the car all day and be abl goverment technology e to come home wit automobile news h a solid Top-15 finish. I'm proud of all my guys here and back at the shop because we had a really good car and one that could contend for a Top-10 today."

Talladega ended up being a big points' race for both the Driver and Team on the day as both moved up five spots in their respective Championships. Wimmer now 18th in Driver Championship points is only 36 points outside of the Top-10, and Curtis Key jumped up to 27th in the Owners Championship points, well within the coveted Top-30 which guarantees making the field next time out.

The next stop for the NASCAR Nationwide Series will be Nashville Superspeedway on April 23rd for the Nashville 300. Coverage of that race can be seen on ESPN beginning at 3pm. All times eastern.

This means the operating environment for the ports and shipping sector should be supportive. Admittedly, there is a big political risk factor as presidential elections are due in April. That said, we project the winner will be former President Alejandro Toledo, a centre-right candidate with a proven track record in market-friendly macroeconomic management. As president in 2001-2006 Toledo achieved average annual GDP growth of 6.0%, low annual inflation (1.5%), a narrowing of the fiscal deficit, and free-trade agreements. His enthusiasm for high levels of infrastructure investment is noteworthy, and was designed to support the country's medium-term export-led growth prospects. After strong GDP growth in 2010 we believe the country will have slightly slower, but still impressive expansion rates in 2011. Fixed investment has been making the strongest contribution to GDP, but in the medium term we believe private sector consumption will increase as income levels rise and unemployment falls. While net exports have been a drag on growth, in the medium term Peru's commodity exports connect it to the China growth story. Based on our analysis, BMI forecasts 2011 GDP growth of 6.2% in Peru, compared to a deceleration on the 8.5% growth rate achieved in 2010. We expect growth to ease further to 4.9% in 2012 and to remain in the 4-5% band in subsequent years. As a result in the five years to 2015 we expect growth to average 5.3% per annum.

Key Industry Trends

Labour unrest at the Port of Callao continues to be a concern. Port operations were disrupted by strike action at Muelle Norte in late January and continued in early February. The dispute was politicised, with labour unions and opposition parties seeking to challenge plans to award a private sector concession to run the terminal. There were also separate concerns that the concession might be awarded to DP World, which already operates a terminal and would therefore have a potentially monopolistic or quasimonopolistic position in Callao.

The demands of growing mineral exports and trade with Asia require greater investment in Peruvian port infrastructure. According to a report by the Lima Chamber of Commerce, about US$2bn needs to be invested in improving the quality of Peru's ports. Peru is ranked 113th out of 133 countries for quality of port infrastructure, according to the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report (although admittedly this represents a jump of 13 places compared to an earlier report a year ago).

Tameron Hyundai announces Hyundai to Introduce New Models in India

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 13, 2011 – Hyundai Motor Co. will introduce two new vehicles in India each year until 2014 in a bid to retain its position as the second-largest car maker in Asia's third-biggest automotive market amid stiff competition from recent entrants Volkswagen AG, Nissan Motor Co. and others.

"We will have new products in all segments," Arvind Saxena, director of sales and marketing at Hyundai Motor India Ltd., told Dow Jones Newswires in a recent interview. "New products play a vital role in boosting sales."

Hyundai will soon start selling an upgraded version of its mid-sized sedan Verna as part of this product introduction plan, he added.

The company also makes small cars Santro, i10 and i20 and sedans Accent and Sonata at its factory near the southern port city of Chennai and imports and markets the Santa Fe sport-utility vehicle.

Global auto makers are queueing up to take advantage of the robust Indian economy and rising personal incomes that h Infiniti m hybird ave helped boost demand for new two-wheelers, cars and sport-utility vehicles.

Volkswagen, Ford Motor Co., Nissan Motor, Renault SA, Toyota Motor Corp. and others have either introduced small cars or plan to do so in the near future to cater to the record-growing demand.

New car local sales jumped 30% in the financial year ended March 31--the fastest in more than a decade--to 1.98 million vehicles.

But newer entrants are challenging the dominance of older, more established auto makers including that of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and Hyundai. The two have already lost some market share in th mustang car e past y 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible ear because of increased competition.

"Going forward, we are confident that we would retain our market share. New models will help us in doing so," Mr. Saxena said.

Market share of the local unit of Suzuki Motor Corp in India fell to 48.7% in the year through March from 50.1% a year earlier, while Hyundai's share stood at 18.1% from the 20.6% it held a year earlier, according to data from industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.

Hyundai Motor India aims to sell at least 400,000 cars and SUVs locally in 2011, up 12% from last year's 356,717 vehicles. Still, the sales growth will be nearly half of last year's 23% rise as increasing interest costs and rising prices of raw materials such as steel, aluminum and natural rubber will likely dent demand, Mr. Saxena said.

"There would be a moderation in the whole industry. We will also grow first drive audi a6 at a similar pace," he said.

Hyundai Motor India plans to raise prices of all its vehicle models between 1% and 1.5% by Saturday due to higher commodity prices, Mr. Saxena said, marking the company's second price since January due to higher input costs.

Hyundai follows Maruti, Tata Motors Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd., Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. and others that have all raised prices twice in 2011.

Also, exports of Hyundai--India's largest vehicle exporter--are expected to fall 11% in 2011 to 220,000 vehicles owing to weak demand for small cars in Europe.

The auto maker sells 'made-in-India' small cars to 118 countries globally and its i10 small car is made exclusively in India for the global market.

Morocco Autos Report Q2 2011: New research report available at Fast Market Research

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 09, 2011 – Final figures for 2010 released by Morocco's Association of Vehicle Importers (AIVAM) showed that new car sales in Morocco were down 5% year-on-year (y-o-y), with 103,436 vehicles sold. This total was made up of 91,119 passenger cars and 12,317 light commercial vans. This represented a 24% annual decline in light commercial van sales and a 2.6% annual fall in new passenger car sales, accor ni ssan GTR specification ding to a report in the Aujourd'hui newspaper. Out of the 91,119 passenger cars sold, 61,732 were imported, while 29,387 units were manufactured locally. This means that 2010 represents the second consecutive year of falling new car sales market in Morocco.

First indications are that 2011 may prove a better year, with sales figures for January 2011 showing a total of 7,410 passenger cars (imported and locally produced) were sold in the month, an increase of 8.54% yo- y. According to AIVAM, there was a 13.6% increase in the number of imported cars sold, while those produced locally suffered a 1.34% annual decline.

Given this reasonably buoyant start to the year, and with our Macroeconomic team estimating that Morocco's economy will grow 4.2% in 2011, we are cautiously forecasting a 3% increase in new car sales this year, believing that the trend of declining sales seen since 2008 can now finally be halted. We would hope to make upward revisions to this forecast later in the year, but for now choose to be conservative in our assessment. Beyond this point, much Infiniti m hybird will depend on the durability of economic growth in Morocco and also whether calls for greater democracy will lead to civil unrest of a type seen in Libya and Egypt. For now, we are forecasting a gradual 4% increase in new car sales over the remainder of our forecast period to 2015.

No final full-year data on Moroccan vehicle production was available as this report went to press. However, local vehicle production from the Renault-owned Somaca facility has been estimated at 42,000 units for the year, according to local media reports. In Q410, it was also reported that PSA Peugeot Citroen was to stop local production of its Partner and Berlingo LCVs at the Somaca facility, effective December 2010, when its current contract ended. This development may lead to 2011 production figures coming in lower than we currently anticipate. However, th 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible is short-term drop in production will not last long, with Moroccan auto output to be given a significant boost once Renault's Tangier Mediterranee plant opens in 2012. Indeed, the impact of the new plant will increase the amount of Moroccan auto production by a factor of 10, with output set to be well above 450,000 units per annum by the end of our newly extended forecast period in 2015.

In 2010, Dacia, a subsidiary of Renault, remained the top-selling car manufacturer in Morocco. The company sold 16,670 locally produced cars and 1,360 imported cars over the year, for a total of 18,030 cars and a market share of 17.5%. In second place is parent company Renault, which sold 10,369 locally produced cars and 6,488 imported cars, for a total of 16,857 cars (16.3% market share). Together, the two companies boast a market share of 33.8%.

In 2010, Peugeot led the way in terms of imported new cars sold within Morocco, on 7,524 units. This represented a market share of 12.19%. Peugeot's most popular imported model was the 206+. Behind Peugeot was Renault, which sold 6,488 imported cars for a market share of 10.5%. Renault's most popular imported model was the Megane. In third place was Hyundai Motor, which sold 5,537 units for a market share of just under 9%, closely followed by Kia Motors on 5,518 units (for a market share of 8.9%). Kia experienced a 21.8% y-o-y fall in new car sales. Rou automobile news nding out the top five was Volkswagen, which sold 5,319 units, a 17.8% y-o-y increase, for a market share of 8.6%.

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 07, 2011 – SHANGHAI -- With the CHEVROLET Malibu sedan and Captiva SUV slated to debut at the Shanghai auto show, GENERAL MOTORS has made it clear that it wants to move the brand upscale in China. It's a timely strategy, since the brand is losing steam. After surging 66 percent in 2010, Chevy sales in March rose only 7 percent year-on-year. By contrast, Buick an bmw M5 specification d Cadillac sales continue to soar. But it won't be so easy for Chevrolet to move upscale. GM will have to make a serious -- and costly -- investment to expand production capacity. Chevy's Chinese model lineup -- Spark, New Sail, Lova, Aveo, Epica and Cruze -- are mostly low-priced. The Spark costs only 43,000 yuan ($6,500), while the New Sail is priced at 60,000 yuan. As a result, Chinese consumers see Chevy as a discount brand. So it makes sense for GM to introduce the Malibu and the Captiva in China, which would move Chevrolet into higher price segments. But GM will have to invest a lot of time and energy to market these two new models. A mainstream model in the United States, Malibu is virtually unknown to Chinese consumers. Moreover, the Malibu and Captiva have formidable rivals. In the mid-sized sedan segment, competitors include the Toyota Crown and Camry, the Honda Accord and the Volkswagen Passat. The Captiva's rivals include popular SUVs such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Toyota Highlander. To compete against these formidable rivals, GM will have to produce the Malibu and Captiva in China. Given China's high tariffs, it simply doesn't make sense to import these vehicles. I wouldn't be surprised if GM makes some announcements about future production plans during the Shanghai auto show.

SAIC buys $4.4B in parts, EV units from parent

SAIC Motor Corp. agreed to buy auto parts and electric vehicle businesses from its parent for 28.6 billion yuan ($4.4 billion) to extend its lead as China's largest automaker. SA mustang car IC Motor, of Shanghai, a partner of Volkswagen AG and General Motors, will issue 1.7 billion shares at 16.5 yuan each in payment for the assets, SAIC said in a statement. The unit of state-owned Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. is expanding as vehicle sales jumped 32 percent last year in China, the world's biggest auto market. SAIC predicted its deliveries will rise 12 percent to exceed 4 million units this year.
